You know you have to care for your rental property if you’re a landlord. This means you need to carry out upgrades and improvements from time to time. This costs money, but it is likely to be money well spent in the long term.

If you improve the condition of your rental property, you make it more attractive to likely tenants. You also increase the chances of tenants being willing to spend more when staying in your rental property. So, an outlay and inconvenience at one point often results in far greater returns in the long term.

Towns and cities require upgrades too

This isn’t just the case with a rental property; it’s the same for towns and cities. This is why landlords in Peterborough should be pleased about the “extensive work programme” to bring about positive changes to the local area.

When the local area is in better condition and more welcoming, many people will want to stay in the local area. This helps create interest in Peterborough and will hopefully make life easier for local landlords.

Some of the things which are due for improvements with this work include:

  • Roads
  • Pavements
  • Street lighting
  • Bridges
  • Public transport

All these things impact safety, travel speed, and even confidence in the local area. Improvements to these aspects can only be suitable for the people of Peterborough and local landlords.

The changes are part of the Local Transport Programme of Work for 2022/23 from Peterborough City Council, and work has been approved.

£5M worth of funding is coming from the Department for Transport (DfT), and there is also corporate funding for some of the highway schemes.

Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Commercial Strategy and Investments at Peterborough City Council, has spoken about the work, saying: “We are fully committed to ensuring that our highways and transport systems are of an excellent standard. This extensive programme of works will result in many benefits for road and transport users, which I look forward to seeing over the next 12 months.”

No doubt there will be upheaval in the short term. It is even likely some residents and visitors will suffer the inconvenience. However, this work can only be good for Peterborough in the long-term, and it should positively impact the local area.
